After not seeing a good 2D Disney Princess movie since 1998 I was gifted with the chance to see "The Princess and the Frog" today. I have to say that 15 minutes into the movie, any doubts I had were completely gone. The movie was beautiful and vibrant and full of morals that i think that everyone should have. The animation was terrific and the music made me want to dance. The main focus of the movie was that you can wish all you want, but you'll never be truly happy unless you work hard to achieve it. There was a lot of Voodoo magic in, this is something that a lot of black people complained about. I'm not sure why though, whenever there where Caucasian witch no one pissed themselves silly. voodoo is apart of African culture, it only makes sense that they would utilize that during the movie (no one complained about Calypso in The Pirates of The Carribean).

I also like that the Prince had an actual personality, he wasn't just some random "Prince Charming" and that Tiana wasn't a Mary Sue. I didn't mind that Prince Naveen wasn't black (it's not like there were a lot of African royalty visiting America at that time anyway). It think that if the prince was African, disney would have had to draw them wearing Dashiki's and other African garb and the black community would have been offended anyway. I am glad Disney is evidently endorsing interracial marriage.

At the end of the movie I cried like a baby, remembering all the times in my childhood that I wanted to be a Princess just Ariel and Aurora. Remembering every Halloween where I would have to wear a Pochahantas costume b/c she was the only princess remotely close to looking like me. And certainly remembering the times during Christmas when I wanted the white Barbie doll b/c she was "prettier" than black one.

To all the people who complain and criticize this movie. I have to give them a big FUCK YOU. This movie wasn't for the Black community, it's for children, so anyone who gets offended by it is a fucktard. I really hate that a children's fairytale have to be taken so literal. As a black woman, I find it more offensive that we as black people are actually whining about the breakdown of an innocently put together children's flick. PLEASE!!! Also, the film was not written or directed by someone that is out of touch with the black experience. The writers are all black, one of them being a black man who's been with Disney for well over 10 years.
